Japanese mobile network operator NTT DoCoMo is planning to introduce an upgraded version of its 3G service, called “Super 3G”, which will boost the speed of mobile data transmission to over 100 Mbps for downloading and over 50 Mbps for uploading. The current 3G technology operates at up to 384 kbps, making the new network up to 260 times faster. The company expects to complete the new network by 2009 and make it commercially available by 2010.

Super 3G will allow NTT to offer advanced services without significantly increasing its capital spending as it will not require the replacement of the 3G network of base stations.
