DoT plans to finalise a comprehensive spectrum allocation policy by end-2007 to enable the release of additional spectrum. The defence ministry, along with DoT’s Project Definition Team, may provide optic fibre cable links to replace some existing wireless links so as to facilitate release of additional spectrum in the relevant frequency bands. It has also asked the group of ministers on spectrum to direct the Ministry of Defence to release 20 MHz of spectrum in the 1800 MHz band immediately.
