Cingular Wireless has reported fourth-quarter profits of $204 million as against a loss of $495 million after incorporating the cost of writing down the value of network assets in the previous year for the same quarter. A 60:40 joint venture between AT&T and BellSouth, Cingular has added 1.82 million subscribers during the quarter to end the year with 54.1 million subscribers.
What helped Cingular was its 3G network rollout and the continuing success of advanced handsets. Cingular reported net profits of $333 million for the year 2005 compared to $201 million in 2004 on revenues of $34.43 billion from $19.57 billion a year earlier.
