MTNL is aiming to double its revenue from value-added services to 15 per cent of its total revenue in 2006-07. MTNL’s valueadded services include SMS, interactive voice response system, general packet radio services and caller ringback tones. The need to earn more revenues from the non-voice segment is inevitable as mobile calling rates have been falling and are down to Re 1, in addition to the fierce competition among operators to sustain the existing revenue level by offering innovative voice and non-voice packages.
