Uninor has asked the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) for an additional 1.8 Mhz of spectrum in eight circles, based on the subscriber-linked criteria.
The company operates in 13 circles and says it has reached the required number of subscribers to make it eligible for 6.2 Mhz of 2G spectrum. The company currently holds start-up spectrum of 4.4 Mhz, allotted at the time of obtaining a licence in 2008.
Uninor has 27 million subscribers and is adding around 1.6 million customers every month. By end-2011, it expects to net 30 million plus users and up to 50 million next year.
The company is expecting to break even by the first half of 2013.
