MTNL has applied for additional spectrum on account of its increasing subscriber base, which has crossed the 500,000 mark. In May 2005, MTNL added 44,000 new GSM subscribers in Delhi, and became the leader for the fifth consecutive month in terms of subscriber additions. The company has close to 38,500 broadband subscribers, of which 16,500 are in Delhi. Currently, MTNL is engaged in floating a fresh tender for 3G services, alongside its efforts to add new capacity.
