China’s Ministry of Information Industry (MII) has said that the country would start providing 3G services before the 2008 summer Olympic Games. The MII plans to invest 1.21 billion yuan ($145 million) as specific funds for development of China’s telecom industry. Many Chinese enterprises have launched 3G R&D, while others, such as China Putian and CEC, are involved in 3G testing or are preparing for debugging with their 3G phones or chips.
