BSNL has stated that it would be forced to increase its tariffs if the ADC is removed, as it will not be able to sustain below-cost tariffs in the future. According to BSNL, the cost-based rentals of telephones are estimated at Rs 366 a month as against the Rs 250 per month charged at present in urban areas and Rs 50 per month charged in rural areas. The company states that although TRAI had stipulated that local calls be charged on a two-minute per call basis, BSNL has been charging subscribers on a three-minute per call basis, which it will have to revise once the ADC is removed.
