TRAI is examining whether CDMA operators offering fixed wireless services will be required to pay ADC on long distance calls.
According to sources, there is a major flaw in the ADC regulation that allows CDMA operators to pass on ISD calls without paying any ADC on calls originating from fixed wireless phones. ADC is applicable only on long distance calls terminating at and originating from mobile phones. Fixed wireless phones offered by CDMA operators come under fixed telephony and are not subject to ADC. ISD calls on fixed wireless phones thus cost 60 per cent less than on GSM and CDMA mobile phones.
