
Cisco System has retrenched about 600 Indian employees, say news reports. It has asked 200 employees from its recently acquired video software and content security solutions? company NDS to leave the company.
Cisco had acquired NDS with a workforce of 1,600 engineers in its Bangalore research and development (R&D) centre in March 2012.
Apart from NDS, the company has laid off engineers working in R&D, switching, data centre and some sales professionals too. In India, Cisco has four R&D centres in Bangalore and six sales offices.
This is part of a restructuring exercise undertaken by the company worldwide. Earlier in July, 2012 the company had announced its plans to layoff about 1,300 employees globally.
Globally, Cisco it employs 65,000 employees. In 2011, the company had laid off 11,000 employees.
