Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL), which is in negotiations to acquire Sri Lanka’s fixed wireless operator Suntel, has put conditions on the buyout on the grounds that there are legal cases involving Suntel. For instance, Suntel filed a suit against Electrotek Network Services to recover LKR 69.3 million for telecom services rendered to the company, but faced a counter-suit of over LKR 4 billion for terminating services. Though MTNL and Suntel have not disclosed the conditions imposed on the buyout, the purchase price for Suntel is likely to fall as a result of these conditions.
