According to a survey by Cisco, despite a rise in operational costs due to data localisation, 92 per cent of the respondents in India believe that their data would be inherently safer if stored within their country or region. These findings are based on a survey conducted in 12 countries with insights from 2,600 privacy and security professionals.
As per the survey, a majority (95 per cent) of respondents agreed that a global provider can protect their data better than a local provider, while an equal proportion of respondents stated that data with free flow can boost the economic growth of the country.
Further, 99 per cent of respondents said strong privacy laws make customers more comfortable sharing their data in artificial intelligence (AI) applications, while an equal share of respondents said privacy resources and spending will likely be shifted to AI in the coming year.
However, there are concerns regarding the use of generative AI (GenAI). A vast majority of respondents believe that utilising GenAI could risk the disclosure of information to the public or competitors, the technology could replace their jobs or other employees, and it may lead to incorrect or unreal results.
