The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology has stated that all major policy initiatives needed for the telecom sector such as spectrum sharing and trading norms have been undertaken and now the operators should focus on improving their networks.
The Ministry has also added that the spectrum liberalisation policy will also be issued soon. Further, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) will write to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) for the liberalisation of spectrum in the 900 MHz band and after that Cabinet approval for the same will be sought.
Meanwhile, regarding the issue of spectrum cap, the Ministry has contended that a committee has been constituted and further course of action will be taken after its report is reviewed by TRAI and the Telecom Commission.
