5G smartphone sales in India crossed the 100 million mark in May 2023 for the first time, while also surpassing the 4G smartphones per month, based on the data released by Counterpoint Research. The data showed that the share of 5G smartphones in the Rs 20,000 price range, increased from 4 per cent in 2021 to 14 per cent in 2022, reflecting the growing adoption of 5G smartphones in lower price bands.

According to Counterpoint, the 5G smartphone shipment share in India increased to 41 per cent, with 5G smartphone shipments growing 14 per cent year-on-year. The country witnessed 34 new 5G smartphone launches in the first quarter of 2023.

As per the report, the decreasing cost of entry-level 5G smartphones is causing a surge in adoption. The report also stated how there was a long way to go in terms of 5G network coverage.
