As 5G becomes mainstream through affordable devices and major use cases, the number of 5G connections will rise by three times from less than 700 million in 2021 to more than 2.1 billion by 2025, according to new research from Bain & Company.

As per the firm’s analysis, 5G will be adopted more quickly in the first seven years of its commercial deployment i.e. 2018 through 2025 than that experienced for 4G after seven years of its commercial launch in 2009.

In spite of the growth, telcos are struggling to realise the benefits of next-generation wireless broadband technologies, the report said.

It suggests that artificial intelligence (AI) may help telecom operators to get a better return on investment (RoI) from 5G deployments by reducing decision-making time exponentially.
