The government has informed the parliament that 5G services in India have been expanded to 738 districts and around 100 million users so far, witnessing one of the fastest 5G rollouts in the world.

In a written reply to the Lok Sabha, Devusinh Chauhan, union minister of state for communications said that a total of 394,298 base stations have been installed in the country. In addition, the gross revenue of telecom service providers (TSPs) has crossed Rs 3 trillion for the first time in the fiscal year (FY) 2022-23.

The minister attributed the growth in the telecom sector to the various structural and procedural reforms implemented by the government in last few years to promote healthy competition, infuse liquidity, encourage investment, reduce regulatory burden on telcos and protect interests of consumers.

He added that the government has rationalised definition of adjusted gross revenue (AGR), allowed spectrum trading and sharing, permitted 100 per cent foreign direct investment (FDI) and ensured adequate spectrum through open and transparent auction.
