As per data released by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), about 59.31 million subscribers opted for mobile number portability (MNP) at the end of July 2012.

MNP, which allows subscribers to migrate from one service provider to other without changing their number, was rolled out in January, 2011.

According to TRAI, in July 2012, a total of 4.98 million subscribers opted for the service. In the MNP Zone-I comprising north and west India, the maximum number of MNP requests came from Rajasthan and Gujarat, at about 5.63 million and 5.34 million subscribers respectively. In the MNP Zone-II covering south and east India, the maximum number of MNP requests have been received from Karnataka (about 7.19 million subscribers), followed by Andhra Pradesh (5.72 million subscribers).
