Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) is reportedly setting up large data centres in four regions of India as part of its Rs 150 billion deal with state-owned telco Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL).

The Tata Group’s information technology (IT) services arm, along with the government’s Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT), will make 38 deployments, in total, of varying capacities in BSNL premises across all telecom circles of the telco as part of its 4G network deployment, making it the first indigenous network solutions provider.

The TCS-led consortium, which is responsible for end-to-end planning, design, installation, commissioning and optimisation of the mobile network, includes C-DOT and indigenous telecom equipment-maker Tejas Networks.

The project marks TCS’ gateway into the modern 4G and 5G communications infrastructure segment and pits it against global competitors.
