Zain Saudi Arabia and Motorola have signed a contract for the first LTE network deployment in Saudi Arabia. Under the deal, Motorola will deploy an FDD LTE network in the 2.6 GHz band, overlaying Zain’s existing 3G network. Motorola will deploy the network for Zain in Riyadh and will provide an end-to-end LTE solution including radio access network, evolved packet core, devices, and optimisation and integration services. Deployment will begin in the second quarter of 2010. The contract with Motorola follows Zain Bahrain’s deal with NSN, which was the first LTE contract to be signed in the Middle East.
