The China-based handset manufacturer, Xiaomi is planning to manufacture mobile devices in India. The company is in talks with its manufacturing partners in China to extend their support so as to start operations in India within the next two years.
Further, the company has already started exploring opportunities to establish a facility in India to assemble its handsets. As per the industry reports, Xiaomi had considered the idle facility of Nokia at Chennai for assembling but did not closely follow up on it. It is also looking at the regulatory constraints, amount of investments required, tax implications amongst other things to establish a manufacturing unit in India.
