The world’s first cellphone-based mobile broadcasting is set to debut in Korea with three video and six audio channels. TU Media, a unit of the nation’s foremost wireless operator SK Telecom, will launch a test run for satellite digital multimedia broadcasting (DMB) across the country. DMB refers to mobilityspecific broadcasting, which allows people to enjoy TV programmes through handsets or in-car terminals. Trial services will be offered on an up-to-date Samsung Electronics phone, the SCH-B100, free of charge until May before full-fledged commercial services are launched. Three video channels will be dedicated to news, music and drama while six audio channels will feature various music programmes.
