Sanjiv Verma, vice president, Asia Pacific

CommScope has been providing network and connectivity solutions built for today’s 5G landscape. In an interview with tele.net, Sanjiv Verma, vice president, Asia Pacific, RUCKUS Networks at CommScope, shares his views on India’s evolving 5G landscape, key solutions offered by the company, and future plans and strategies…

What have been the key highlights of CommScope’s business in India during the past year?

Throughout 2023, we leveraged our innate strengths to drive CommScope’s business priorities. We combined our outstanding research and development pipeline, exceptional talent and a leaner, more efficient company structure to bring CommScope to a commanding position. A strong focus on the RUCKUS network business and the successful sale of the home networks business to Vantiva were pivotal. Additionally, we saw a significant scale-up of our connectivity and cable solutions business, in support of generative artificial intelligence (AI) deployments with top-tier hyperscale and cloud customers increasingly leveraging CommScope’s solutions.

Our networking, intelligent cellular and security solutions business, led by our RUCKUS Networks products, managed to deliver remarkable growth on the strength of innovative, game-changing solutions such as our Wi-Fi® 7 and RUCKUS One™ integrated wireless platform.

In addition to these innovations, CommScope continues to work with leading telco players to advance India’s connectivity from Wi-Fi to broadband services to indoor and outdoor 4G and 5G.

What are the key solutions that the company offers in the Indian market? What are some of the upcoming products?

CommScope is pushing the boundaries of technology to create the world’s most advanced wired and wireless networks. At the beginning of this year, we started deploying the market’s leading enterprise-class Wi-Fi 7 access point (AP) – the R770 from RUCKUS Networks. This AI-driven platform will utilise the advanced capabilities of Wi-Fi 7, coupled with RUCKUS®-patented innovations, to deliver the best possible performance in the most challenging environments of the industries we serve. We also have the new R670 AP — RUCKUS’S first AI-driven Wi-Fi 7 AP for mainstream deployments. In Asia Pacific, our customers are already using RUCKUS® Wi-Fi 7 technology. For instance, Analogue’s new headquarters, ATAL Tower, is the first smart building in Hong Kong to deploy RUCKUS® Wi-Fi 7 APs.

We have also deployed the new RUCKUS suite providing turn key AI, Wi-Fi 7 and internet of things solutions for the hospitality industry, helping them increase operational efficiencies and sustainability.

We also have some new offerings for our data centre portfolio. The SYSTIMAX® 2.0 enhancements provide customers inside buildings, data centres and across campuses with the latest structured cabling solutions and support to meet the challenges arising from technology disruption and operational demands. The GigaREACH™ XL solution, the latest innovation in the SYSTIMAX® portfolio, launched recently, reliably doubles the reach of traditional twisted pair ethernet devices on the enterprise network.

What are your views on India’s evolving 5G landscape? How is CommScope leveraging opportunities in this domain?

India’s 5G landscape is rapidly evolving, marked by the launch of 5G services in major cities and extensive network deployment by private and public players. With over 394,000 5G base stations installed and ambitious plans for further expansion, India now hosts the second-largest 5G network globally. This technological advancement is set to significantly boost India’s economy, contributing to the $5 trillion economy by 2027 goal and providing substantial gross domestic product gains.

CommScope is actively offering innovative solutions that facilitate network densification, virtualisation and optimisation. Our range of products, including small cells, distributed antenna systems and fibre optic connectivity, are crucial for enhancing network performance and efficiency. 5G and Wi-Fi will complement each other. CommScope’s enterprise-class Wi-Fi 7 solution, powered by RUCKUS AI, exemplifies the brand’s commitment to pioneering future-ready technologies, and addressing  new sophisticated use cases with improved responsiveness, reliability and security, and reduced latency.

What are your future plans and strategies?

We are redefining how we connect, and changing the network architecture required to support customer demand due to the exponential growth in video and mobile data consumption. Moreover, as AI becomes integrated with every aspect of the process from product development to deployment, it is expected to escalate the demand for enhanced efficiency in data centres and network capabilities for enterprises.

We remain focused on helping our customers by offering an industry-leading combination of innovation, solutions portfolio, global production and quality control to support the telecom industry’s growth and success.
