Vodafone Qatar has been awarded Qatar’s second fixed line licence, subject to regulatory approval. The award of the licence had so far been delayed due to a lack of clarity over the company’s ownership structure. According to data provided to the Qatar regulatory authority, 45 per cent of the company’s shares are held by a joint venture (JV) between Vodafone and Qatar Foundation LLC.

The Vodafone Group owns 51 per cent of this JV, giving it a 22.95 per cent overall stake in Vodafone Qatar. About 40 per cent of the company’s shares are held by the public and the remaining 15 per cent by the Military Staff Loan Fund, the Military Pension Fund and Health and Education Endowment. The Vodafone Group has the overall board and management control.
