Vodafone India has entered into a partnership with Bharat BPO Services Limited, an information service provider to the Indian Railways, to enable online booking of railway tickets through its mobile money transfer and payment service, Vodafone M-Pesa. The new application will allow the customers to book rail e-tickets, seek PNR status, cancel tickets and get refunds through their mobile phones.
Vodafone users can download the application on their phones to book tickets. Further, the M-Pesa customers can send in their booking details through the 139 railway reservation application and authorise the transactions through their M-PINs. Also, they can access information on cancellations and PNR status through the application. For the cancelled tickets, the refunds will be directly transferred to the M-Pesa wallets.
The application will provide a technology platform even for the customers that do not have an internet connection to book railway tickets.
