
Vodafone India has released its sustainability report for 2012-13. As per the report, the operator powered 256 towers with green technology during 2012-13. At the end of 2013, 2,700 of the operator?s towers are powered by green technology.
Further, the report states that out of the total 1,10,004 total mobile towers that company manages directly, currently about 2,435 of its telecom sites are powered by green technologies. With the deployment of green technologies at its towers sites, Vodafone India?s diesel consumption declined from 46,233 kilo litres in 2011-12 to 44,372 kilo litres in 2012-13.
While during the period under review, there was about four per cent increase in the number of mobile sites managed by Vodafone India, the carbon emission from its network increased from 4,40,000 tonnes in 2011-12 to 4,50,000 tonnes in FY 2012-13. Currently, Vodafone India manages only 11 per cent of its total telecom sites and rest of the 89 per cent telecom sites are managed by third party. The carbon emission on the operator?s mobile towers managed by third party also increased by 4.4 per cent from 18,71,000 tonnes in 2011-12 to 19,55 000 tonnes in 2012-13.
Vodafone India has also entered into a partnership with The Energy and Resources Institute to deploy green technology on its network.
