According to recent financial data released by TRAI, revenue market share (RMS) of Vodafone Idea declined by 448 basis points (bps) to 23.3 per cent in the quarter ended June 2020. This fall in RMS has been attributed to the decline in Vodafone Idea’s market-share in urban circles, exacerbated further by the fall in its revenues from 2G business amid the COVID-19 crisis.

On the other hand, Reliance Jio reported strong sequential growth of 702 bps taking its RMS to 41.8 per cent during the period under consideration. This growth was stimulated by factors like tariff hikes introduced in December 2019, strong performance in urban markets and the removal of discount vouchers.

Meanwhile, Airtel’s RMS increased by 391 bps to 34.8 per cent. This growth was driven by 13 per cent sequential growth in its revenue from national long distance (NLD) services and higher revenue inflows in its top markets.
