Vodafone has claimed over Rs 11 billion in damages from the Ruias of the Essar Group for failing to transfer shares of BPL Mobile. The UK-based telecom service provider has stated that it paid Rs 16.17 billion for the purchase of BPL Mobile and will reclaim this amount in addition to interest charges and damage payments if the Ruias refuse to transfer BPL Mobile’s shares.

However, if the Ruias do hand over BPL Mobile to Vodafone, the latter will only claim damages for the loss of BPL’s business, which is about Rs 12 billion.
