Vodafone and Orange Business Services (owned by France Telecom) are reportedly planning to merge their UK mobile phone networks in a deal designed to reduce costs and provide new 3G services such as video calling, mobile blogging, and mobile TV to a greater proportion of their British customers. The deal, slated to be officially announced within a few days, marks the first instance of UK telecom operators sharing their networks. The deal is yet to be cleared by the Office of Communications, the British telecom regulator.
