As many as 47 villages in the Lakhimpur Kheri district of Uttar Pradesh, which share a border with Nepal, are set to be developed as the first border villages under the centrally sponsored Vibrant Village Programme II (VVP II). The programme will provide these villages with all-weather road connectivity and telecommunication infrastructure.
The programme aims at overall infrastructure development, border-specific outreach activities, and the creation of better livelihood opportunities through the promotion of tourism, cultural heritage, and skill development. It also seeks to strengthen local self-help groups, cooperative societies, and youth and women’s groups.
The programme will be implemented in select strategic villages across the states and union territories of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Gujarat, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Punjab, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Tripura, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal.
It also aims to ensure full coverage across all villages in such blocks in four areas, namely all-weather road connectivity, telecom connectivity, television connectivity, and electrification, through convergence under existing scheme norms.
