Vodafone Idea Limited (Vi) has planned to deploy a capital expenditure (capex) of Rs 500-550 billion over the next three years to expand 4G coverage and roll-out 5G in key cities. As per the telco, the expansion of 4G population coverage in 17 priority circles will improve Vi’s competitiveness, while 4G network on the sub-GHz band in 16 circles will improve coverage and subscriber experience.

The telco stated that capex in the first half of fiscal year 2025 (H1 2024-2025) stood at over Rs 20 billion which resulted in increase of 4G data capacity by nearly 14 per cent and expanded 4G population coverage by 22 million. Its capex for H2 2024-2025 is expected at Rs 80 billion as the company’s expands its 4G and 5G plans.

To increase its average revenue per user (ARPU), Vi will focus on expanding 4G penetration, and sees existing 2G subscribers as a strong opportunity for upgradation. Further, Vi aims to enhance proportion of high ARPU subscribers through superior network experience in existing markets, and focus on driving a higher share of broadband devices through focused programs with non-banking financial companies (NBFC).
