Vodafone Idea Limited (Vi) has unveiled its strategy to strengthen its market presence in the Kolkata and Rest of Bengal (RoB) circles by enhancing its 4G infrastructure, focusing on digital initiatives, and expanding its retail footprint.

The telco is prioritising the expansion of its 4G network to meet increasing data consumption demands prior to launching 5G services. Vi has a clear strategic plan for its future 5G deployment. Since its inception, the company has invested approximately Rs176.95 billion in capital expenditures in the Kolkata and RoB regions and operates on the 918, 2100, and 2500 MHz spectrum bands.

To bolster its network capabilities, Vi plans to establish 1,000 new sites across Kolkata and the RoB circles by February-March 2025, which will also facilitate future upgrades to 5G technology. Currently, the telecom operator manages 4,175 sites in Kolkata and 8,371 sites in the RoB circle; the addition of these new sites is anticipated to significantly enhance network coverage.

On the retail front, Vi aims to open 9 new large-format stores in Kolkata over the next two months, expanding its existing network of 36 company-owned large-format stores in the city. This move is part of a broader strategy to improve customer engagement and service accessibility as the company prepares for future technological advancements.
