Vodafone Idea Limited (Vi) has announced the successful completion of its network deployment across the entire underground east-west metro corridor route of Kolkata’s underwater metro rail service. Vi customers traveling via the underwater metro rail service will experience uninterrupted connectivity across the entire 16.6 kilometres route of the green line metro.

Vi has installed advanced network infrastructure across all 17 stations on the green line route, including a 10.8-kilometer stretch of 6 underground stations and 11 ground/elevated stations. Out of these 11 elevated stations, 6 are public-accessible, while the remaining 5 stations will be opened in due course. Vi has ensured complete network infrastructure deployment across all stations, ensuring seamless connectivity for travelers commuting from Howrah Maidan to Esplanade.

The tunnel, located 33 meters below surface level and 13 meters below the Hooghly riverbed, is the primary feature that sets apart the East-West metro corridor. For a better network experience, Vi has installed in-building solutions inside the subterranean metro tunnel and the tunnel beneath the river.

Commenting on the announcement, Naveen Singhvi, cluster business head, East, Vi, said, “The inauguration of this East-West Metro corridor is a long-cherished dream for the citizens of Kolkata & Howrah. As a leading telecom operator, we are delighted to share that our network deployment across this underwater rail route will offer an uninterrupted, seamless, and superior network experience to our Vi customers. This initiative is a testament to Vi’s commitment to providing a delightful experience to our customers for a better tomorrow.”
