Venkata Rao Mallineni enjoys learning new things, especially about people and places. Narrating an incident to this effect, he says, ?Recently, I took a cab home from work and struck up a conversation with the driver. I asked him about his family, whether he was satisfied with his work and whether he was making use of the various government incentive schemes. Seeing how other people live and the challenges they face is truly enlightening.?

He believes that people, products and processes are the keystones to success, and help in transforming the workplace, the industry and even the world. This, he says, is reflected in his career graph, his family life and, by extension, his very personality. He gives an example. ?At the very outset of my career, I was associated with Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) at a time when there were no policies relating to software exports and data communication. I was fortunate enough to work with dynamic leaders and was part of a team that worked closely with industry bodies to frame policies and bring communication tools to exporters.?

Thereafter, he moved to the private sector, a move he describes as ?bold? at that point in time since government jobs were considered plum. He followed the urge to achieve something ?beyond the horizon? and became president and chief executive officer of SoftPro Systems. At SoftPro, he threw himself wholeheartedly into the task of building new products for global markets and for Fortune 500 companies. ?While at STPI, I witnessed the early phase of transformation in technology. I was fascinated with open source software and we explored it to the fullest.?

Next came his stint with Sify in 2006. Prior to his current role at Sify, he served as head of portal and consumer marketing. He joined the company as adviser, business strategy and enterprise solutions. While head of the portal wing, he helped the company become one of the top three websites for sports, entertainment, etc.

In his current role as president of Sify Software, he has three goals in mind: building a strong team, creating quality products and services, and ensuring customer satisfaction. All these are aimed at a simple result ? to transform and positively impact the business.

Personally, too, he is keeping busy discovering himself through yoga and meditation. ?I recently started exploring the spiritual and scientific realms. While science does not provide many answers, our ancient texts provide a practical guide for inner transformation. This is vital in order to positively influence every situation, professional or personal. The idea is to unravel life?s mysteries and join the dots. The ethos and values in one?s career and personal life are linked by a common thread,? he says.
