The government of Uttar Pradesh is actively working to attract private companies to establish eight data centres in the state, with a total investment of approximately Rs 300 billion.
This initiative aims to address the growing demand for secure data storage as more businesses set up operations in India. The state has committed to facilitating land clearances for these projects, which will collectively have a capacity of 900 megawatts (MW) and will likely be located near Noida.
As part of this effort, companies such as Hiranandani Group, Adani Group, NTT Japan, and Web Werks have already launched or announced data centre projects worth Rs 200 billion with a combined capacity of 600 MW.
To ensure uninterrupted power supply for these data centre parks, the UP government has granted them access to energy from two grids. The IT and electronics department of the state will fund one of these grids, while the private data centre investor will bear the cost of the other grid, whichever is more economical.
Initially, the UP-Data Centre Policy, notified in January 2021, provided for double grid power supply to only the first three data centre park projects. However, to attract more private investment, the policy has been amended to extend the double grid power supply to eight data centre parks.
