US-based telecom transmission gear maker, Infinera plans to expand its research and development (R&D) centre in Bangalore, says news reports.

The company is going to scale up research activities in the country, as it sees India as one of its biggest growth market in Asia.

The R&D centre in Bangalore houses 25 per cent of Infinera?s global workforce. Going forward, Infinera will increase its investment in the R&D centre in Bangalore to support increasing traction of its optical transport systems.

Few months back Infinera bagged a key RailTel contract linked to the central government?s Rs 60 billion National Knowledge Network initiative which will link-up premier institutions, universities and R&D centres across the country. The company has also been chosen by Infotel for assisting in its planned 4G broadband network roll-out.
