US-based chip company Qualcomm is working with handset manufacturers and telecom operators (both CDMA and GSM) to launch 3G-enabled mobiles for as low as Rs 4,000 in India. These handsets, which will offer internet capability and additional 3G functions, will be available in early 2009. It also plans to launch 3G smartphones in the second half of 2009 at an entry-level price of Rs 10,000.
