As per the recent data released by National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), monthly UPI transactions scaled an all-time high in June 2021 as India emerged from the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The previous highest was recorded in March 2021, following which transactions fell in April 2021 and May 2021, the peak months of the second wave.
As per NPCI data, as many as 2.8 billion transactions worth Rs 5.47 trillion were recorded on the UPI channel in June 2021. This was 10.6 per cent higher in terms of volume and 11.56 per cent higher in terms of value compared to May 2021. In May 2021, 2.53 billion UPI transactions worth Rs 4.9 trillio were recorded.
