The government of Uttar Pradesh (UP) has announced its plans of rolling out fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) connections for 16,718 gram panchayats across the state.

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) will undertake this task and provide Wi-Fi connections in these villages. The union government has provided a loan of Rs 3 billion to the IT department     .

The FTTH promises to provide speeds of over 100 MB per second which will be 20-100 times faster than the one provided by regular cable, while providing significantly high bandwidths in far-flung areas.
