
Bharat Broadband Network Limited (BBNL) has awarded the contract for supplying gigabit passive optical network (GPON) equipment to United Telecom. The contract is worth Rs 9.88 billion.
The GPON equipment has been procured for establishing the network for the National Optical Fibre Network project.
Besides United Telecom, six other telecom equipment manufacturers had put in their bids for the contract. These companies included ITI, Tejas, Sterlite, Larsen and Turbo (L&T), ZTE India and Bharat Electronics.
United Telecom emerged as the lowest bidder with bids worth Rs 9.98 billion. Other players ITI, Tejas Networks and Sterlite emerged as the second, third and fourth bidder with bids worth Rs 18.77 billion, Rs 18.86 billion and Rs 22.48 billion, respectively. Meanwhile, L&T, ZTE India and Bharat Electronics put in higher bids, emerging as the fifth, sixth and seventh bidder.
