According to the secretary, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), two to three additional semiconductor companies are expected to enter India, as a part of the government’s India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) initiative.

So far, the central government has cleared a total of 10 semiconductor projects under the flagship ISM programme, attracting cumulative investments worth nearly Rs 16 trillion, with participation from Tata and United States based Micron.

Further, according to the secretary, MeitY has recently engaged with the Department of Science and Technology (DST) to explore the use of the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF) in supporting the domestic semiconductor design ecosystem.
