Twitter has reportedly appointed officials temporarily to comply with the new IT rules and has sought time from the government to hire permanent staff as well as to open an office in the country.
Twitter has stated that the ongoing covid pandemic is causing a delay.
In its response to the government, Twitter said that the company will hire a chief compliance officer in a few days and latest within a week.
Twitter’s response has come in the backdrop of the government issuing a final notice to the company regarding its non-compliance with the new rules.
A few days back, the government had issued a notice to Twitter giving the microblogging site one last opportunity to immediately comply with the new IT rules. The government has said that Twitter’s failure to adhere to the norms will lead to the platform losing exemption from liability under the IT Act.
