Tata Teleservices Limited (TTSL) and Tata Teleservices (Maharashtra) Limited (TTML) have surrendered 20 MHz of CDMA spectrum in 14 circles. The operators? move to surrender additional spectrum follows the Department of Telecommunications? (DoT) decision to impose one time spectrum fee on operators holding CDMA spectrum beyond 2.5 MHz in a circle.

Currently, TTSL has a debt running over Rs 230 billion and since it could not pay the one time spectrum fee, the operator decided to surrender the additional spectrum. The operator was asked to pay Rs 11.52 billion as the one time spectrum fee charges for airwaves over and above 2.5 MHz.
