According to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), the average revenue per user (ARPU) of GSM operators declined to Rs 374 per month for the quarter ended September 30, 2005, a decline of 2.6 per cent over the quarter ended June 30, 2005. The post-paid ARPU of Rs 646 per month was 2.3 times higher than the prepaid ARPU of Rs 284 per month. The trend sinceSeptember 2004 indicates a decline of 7.4 per cent in all-India ARPU, according to TRAI. For CDMA operators, the ARPU was Rs 244 per month. The post-paid ARPU at Rs 444 was around 2.29 times that of the prepaid ARPU at Rs 194.
