As per Ministry of Communications, Indian telecom service providers (TSPs) owe nearly Rs 1.47 trillion to the government on account of due licence fee (LF) and spectrum usage charges (SUC).

Out of the total amount, licence fee comes to Rs 926.42 billion as of July 2019, while SUC accounts for Rs 550.54 billion as of October 2019.

Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea hold majority of the liabilities which the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has sought through a process started recently.

Bharti Airtel owes around Rs 355.86 billion within which LF and SUC accounts for Rs 216.82 billion and Rs 139.04 billion, respectively for the company excluding Tata Teleservices and Telenor.

Whereas, the dues for Vodafone Idea amounts to Rs 530.38 billion, of which Rs 283.09 billion in LF and Rs 247.30 billion in SUC.
