The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) will soon submit its report on the issue of net neutrality. The telecom regulator had earlier floated a consultation paper on the matter to seek views from the industry stakeholders. The regulator stated that it is currently reviewing the comments received on the matter.
Earlier, the Department of Telecommunications? panel had also issued report on the matter, suggesting regulation of domestic calls on Internet-based apps such as Skype, Whatsapp and Viber to put them on par with the voice services offered by the operators. However, the Ministry of Communications and IT subsequently clarified that the report did not reflect the final views of the government and the decision would only be taken after looking into stakeholders? suggestions and TRAI?s report.
