The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) is likely to provide its recommendations on the reserve price for spectrum in the 2100 MHz band in January 2015. This comes in light of the fact that the government is planning to auction 3G spectrum along with frequency airwaves in the 800 MHz, 900 MHz and 1800 MHz bands in February 2015.

Earlier in November 2014, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) had directed TRAI to expedite the process for suggesting a reserve price for 2100 MHz spectrum band. Following this, TRAI issued a consultation paper inviting stakeholder views, titled ?Valuation and Reserve price of Spectrum: 2100 MHz band?. The open house discussion for the same is expected to take place on December 22, 2014, after which TRAI will formulate its recommendations.

As DoT had also asked TRAI to provide its recommendations on the pricing and valuation of spectrum in the 2300 MHz and 2500 MHz bands in October 2014, TRAI is likely to initially provide recommendations on 2100 MHz and then commence valuation process for the latter spectrum bands.
