The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) is considering introducing a system to compensate users for the lack of quality telecom services, say news reports. It is believed that the regulator is currently holding discussions with various service providers in this regard.

Speaking at a consumer awareness programme on telecom, J.S. Sharma, chairman, TRAI said, ?We are currently examining the feasibility of asking telecom service providers to compensate subscribers in the event where they do not measure up to the quality of services. However, this is a subject we need to visit carefully, see how feasible it is and understand the pitfalls.?

However since this process is in the initial stages of discussion, Sarma declined to provide any timeline for implementation. ?I wouldn?t commit anything at this stage but we looking at the system of compensation to consumers,? he said.
