
According to the data released by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) the wireless subscriber base in the country has increased from 921.02 million in April, 2012 to 929.37 million in May, 2012.
Bharti Airtel has added over 2 million new users, taking its subscriber base to 185.3 million at the end of May, 2012. Idea Cellular has added 1.75 million new subscribers during the same period. Vodafone India, Reliance Communications and Tata Teleservices Limited have added 1.2 million, 0.5 million and 0.3 million new subscribers respectively in May 2012.
Other players such as Uninor, Aircel, and Sistema Shyam TeleServices Limited added 1.52 million, 0.8 million and 0.25 million users respectively during the month. However, state-run operators, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited lost 81,000 and 0.17 million users, respectively.
The wireline subscriber base in the country has declined by 0.4 per cent from 31.89 million in April, 2012 to 31.53 million in May, 2012. However, the total broadband subscriber base has increased from 13.95 million to 14.31 million during the same period.
