The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has approached telecom operators to suggest ways to address the issue of pesky calls and messages faced by the subscribers.

TRAI?s move comes as a result of increasing volume of unwanted messages and calls from the service providers and telemarketers, which has caused immense inconvenience to consumers. The regulator finds itself unable to resolve the issue within the existing mechanism.

TRAI has asked operators to share possible solutions to address the issue of unsolicited communications. Additionally, the regulator has asked telemarketers as well as consumer groups to suggest remedial measures.

TRAI has asked all the stakeholders to share solutions and suggestions for addressing the issue by October 25, 2012. At the same time TRAI is also working towards a set of norms for punishing violators by imposing monetary penalty and disconnecting network of repeat offenders.
