The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has released telco financial data for first quarter (Q1) FY 2024- 25.
As per the data, Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel have reported an increase of 60 basis points (bps) and 39 bps, taking their June quarter revenue market share (RMS) levels to 42.7 per cent and 38.3 per cent respectively. Meanwhile, Vodafone Idea Limited’s (Vi) RMS fell to an all-time low of 15 per cent in the fiscal first quarter following market share losses in as many as 16 out of the 22 circles.
Jio and Airtel have reported sequential increases in adjusted gross revenue (AGR), with Jio rising by 2.1 per cent to Rs 262 billion and Airtel by 1.7 per cent to Rs 235 billion in the first quarter of the fiscal year. In contrast, Vi experienced a decline of 2.2 per cent in AGR, falling to Rs 92 billion. Overall, the industry’s AGR, including national long-distance (NLD) revenue, rose by 0.7 per cent to Rs 614 billion, while the combined AGR of the top three operators increased by 1.2 per cent quarter-on-quarter to Rs 589 billion.
In terms of average revenue per user (ARPU), Jio implemented mobile rate hikes of approximately 12-25 per cent for most customers starting in early July. Consequently, Airtel and Vi also raised their headline rates by 11-20 per cent and 10-23 per cent, respectively.
Currently, Airtel boasts the highest ARPU in the sector at Rs 211 per month, compared to Jio’s Rs 182 and Vi’s Rs 146.
